Let’s Address your Liposuction Concerns

Liposuction San Francisco | Palo Alto CAAny type of surgery can create feelings of anxiety or apprehension. If you are curious about what liposuction can do for you, a consultation is the first step toward determining what your options are and what to expect. The following are common concerns shared by patients interested in liposuction.

How do I know if I’m the right candidate for liposuction?

To mitigate complications during surgery, it is always best to be in general good health. You need to be within 30% of your ideal weight and have firm skin. If you are a smoker, you will need to quit a few weeks prior to your liposuction surgery and be sure you don’t pick up the habit again after.

Is it okay if I continue to take my current medications?

Prior to a liposuction procedure, you will have a consultation with your doctor to discuss your current lifestyle habits, expectations, and medications you are taking at present. During your visit, be sure to notify your doctor of any allergies you have or think you might have. Tell them about the medications you are taking including herbal supplements. If you are taking blood thinners, your doctor will have you stop  a few weeks before our scheduled surgery.

What are the risks of getting liposuction?

Liposuction is a procedure used to get rid of fat that won’t seem to budge even with proper diet and exercise. As with any surgery, there are always risks involved like: infections, numbness, bleeding, fluid accumulation, uneven fat removal or damage to nerves. Be sure you talk with your doctor extensively prior to your surgery so you can address all of your concerns.

How long will it take for me to recover from surgery?

The type of liposuctions surgery you get will influence the amount of recovery time you need. Some people are back to work after two days while others need two weeks. During the first 1 to 2 months after surgery, your surgeon will require you to wear a compression garment to help with swelling. Swelling, bruising, and soreness are all typical parts of the recovery process and completely normal.
