Advanced Skin Care may be Just What your Skin Needs this Fall

Advanced Skin Care Palo Alto, CAIf you’ve spent any time thinking about the way your face is aging, chances are you are also doing your part to care for your skin on a daily basis. Many people we meet spend time each day, and sometimes invest hundreds of dollars, on the very best skin care they can find. The problem is if the skin is not adequately prepared for those products, very little improvement can be expected.

How to Maximize Skin Care

If you think of your skin as a canvas on which you wish to paint, you would be mindful of the condition of the surface. If a true painting canvas were to be covered in soot and particles of dust, paint would not glide over the material in the best possible way. Our skin is even more important because the signs of aging can only be mitigated when all factors work together for synergy. The place we often recommend starting is with professional mechanical or chemical exfoliation.

Mechanical exfoliation is often performed as microdermabrasion. Yes, there are more intense procedures, such as CO2 laser skin resurfacing; but that extreme may not be necessary, especially if you begin your skin care regimen early before collagen depletion has become severe. Microdermabrasion is more like a spa treatment because it gently dusts away particles of dead skin cells from the surface using microcrystals and suction. After treatment, the skin may be slightly red for a short time. More than likely, what will be noticed is a beautiful glow.

Chemical exfoliation is recognized as one of the several different types of chemical peel. Like microdermabrasion, the chemical peel is intended to create a clean slate on the surface of the skin. Depending on the depth and strength of the peel, superficial tissues just below the surface may also be affected. When a deeper peel is performed, a skin may be red for a day – or several days. Peeling should also be expected after a mid- to high-level medical peel.

Skin Care is an Adjunct to Cosmetic Treatments

Cosmetic treatments such as injectables and lifting surgeries are advantageous, but they are not the end-all-be-all. Skin requires ongoing care, and that means ongoing exfoliation using the best possible methods for unique needs.
